Starlink owner and social media platform X chief Elon Musk has revealed another AI chatbot named Grok.X describes Grok as “an AI assistant with a sense of humor and a touch of rebellion.”Grok 3 can answer questions and perform tasks to improve the experience of X users.The chatbot can help users with their tasks while entertaining and engaging them.
Musk says it’s “the smartest AI on Earth.”
He launched the chatbot on February 17, 2025, and showed off all its features, like text-to-video conversion and a correction mechanism.
Musk also praised the team that created the AI chatbot, saying, “Thanks to the hard work of the incredible team, I am honored to work with such a great team.”
The live stream of the event had almost 100,000 viewers.
Elon Musk also explained the meaning of the name Grok.
He said that it comes from a science fiction novel called Stranger in the Strange Land by Robert Hellen. In the book, the word is used by a character that was raised on Mars, and it means to understand something completely and deeply.
The tech geek said that Grok conveys deep understanding and empathy.The X AI is Musk’s competitor to AI models developed by the U.S., such as OpenAI, ChatGPT, and Google Gemini.
