UAE to use drone to see the Moon for Ramadan: The UAE Council for Fatwa says the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be the first nation to use artificial intelligence drones to see the moon during Ramadan. The UAE uses this technology to set Islamic months. The country has asked all Muslims to look for the crescent moon on the evening of Friday, February 28. This will be 29 Shaban in the Umm Al Qura calendar.
The council says that using drones to see the moon is similar to the instructions of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), who said, “Fast not before you see the crescent moon; fast not afterwards either.”If the moon is hidden from a couple of people, they should estimate when it will be seen. The UAE will continue to use traditional methods to see the moon, which include telescopes and naked eye observation, to ensure precision.
They work together with government agencies, special facilities, and astronomical organizations to determine the start of the holy month.
If the moon is seen on Friday evening after Maghrib prayer, Ramadan will start on March 1. If not, Ramadan will begin on March 2. The International Astronomy Center says that Ramadan is expected to start on March 1.
At the same time, Saudi Arabia has asked Muslims in the Kingdom to look for the crescent moon that evening.Government employees in the UAE will have shorter work hours during Ramadan, according to the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources.Private sector workers will have their daily work hours reduced by two hours during the holy month. In the Islamic world, the moon sighting has strong spiritual and cultural value since millions of devoted citizens eagerly want verification of the start of Ramadan.
