Tesla and BMW are suing the EU in an effort to stop the EU from imposing additional taxes on imported electric cars from China.
The two cases are related to the EU’s anti-subsidy tariffs, which were imposed in October 2024. These tariffs are the result of an investigation into subsidies that the Chinese government has been providing to electric vehicle (EV) producers.
The EU investigation alleged that Chinese car manufacturers also benefited from incentives in the form of low-cost loans and inexpensive land.
Tesla’s operations in Shanghai were also mentioned in the report. As a result, the EU imposed additional taxes on Chinese EV imports.
Tarrif for Tesla and BMW
Tesla’s tariff is 7.8%, while for other companies, it’s 35.3%. These are in addition to a general import tax of 10%.
